Going home for Christmas, are you?

If you’re into climate issues, I guess your feed is cluttered with people telling you that you should go by train or not at all if you’re traveling this holiday. To add to the conversation, I just want to say this:

If you need to go by plane to be with your family, please fly! Don’t spend time alone or at a place you don’t want to be just to be sustainable perfect. Sustainability is so much more.

Spending time with family is key for a sustainable life

Reunite with loved ones is equal to social sustainability, and it is as important to your health than anything you can do for the climate. Don’t let the urge of living a perfect sustainable life get in the way of your happiness.

Let me give you a personal example:

For I long time I thought there was a Zero Waste police lurking around in every place I went. It was so stressful to always try to be the perfect Zero Waster: never miss to bring my own, make any trash or buy anything new.

Then someone pointed out to me that there wasn’t anyone judging me but myself, and my life completely changed. I realized that some days is better, and some days shit just happen. And some days one’s priorities are different. And that is okay.

Emissions are absolutely a real thing, but your social needs are important too

When I tell you to fly if you need to, I don’t mean that the emissions from aviation is not a thing, cause it is, and quitting flying is really powerful when it comes to reducing your Co2 footprint on a personal level.

But I don’t think that anybody should give up being close to loved ones because of long distance flight hauls. If you need to travel unsustainable to be able to go home for Christmas, my advice from the heart is that you should go.

With whom will you spend Christmas this year?
